I opted to go ahead and see this one before it went out of the theaters. I'd rather not wait to see it on DVD because I never end up watching movies once they're on DVD (or so it seems). Anyways, back to the movie review.

Well, I wasn't exactly the biggest fan of The Da Vinci Code. I didn't exactly have high hopes for this movie, but I decided to give it shot based on the book reviews. Angels and Demons is supposedly the better book of the two, so I was pretty excited. Well, it did live up to being better than The Da Vinci Code as a movie--but that's not saying a lot. It was full of utterly ridiculous, time-ticking-away moments that make it hard to focus on anything but how implausible it seems. I guess it's their way of "keeping you on your feet." I was entertained, and I'm used to the unrealistic factor of movies... because they're movies.

I guess some people like this movie because it has just enough truth laced in with its fiction. I know movies like this, or National Treasure, keep you interested because in the back of your mind you wonder if some of it might, possibly, just maybe--real. Angels and Demons keeps your attention---partly because you're wondering where the sense of the title comes into play. I still think they foreign title of Illuminati makes more sense. Anyways, the movie is pretty easy to follow, less sacreligious than its movie predecessor, and pretty clean (in the sexuality/language sense).

I give the movie a B-.

Intermission

Since I don't get to go to the movies much (or at all thus far) while I am in Germany, I will be taking another 2 month hiatus from movie reviews. Goyer
Rated: PG-13
Genres: Fantasy, Horror

This has got to be one of the worst movies I have ever "scene". I can't believe this was a movie... and that Gary Oldman acted in it! I think that's what had me fooled. I love a scary movie. I expect them to be cheesy scary, hence why I can watch them. This one... well, this one isn't even cheesy scary. I felt as though I lost a few IQ points once it was finished. I wish I hadn't wasted my money to watch this. At least I did get a good laugh out of it by the end? The story doesn't make sense whatsoever. The main girl, Casey, is being haunted by her unborn twin brother. You gather that much from the previews. What does that end up having to do with all the crazy stuff going on around her? Not much of anything. This movie should be listed under the comedy drama. Or is there a crappy movie genre? Just don't watch it.

I give this movie a D.

Marley and Me

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 133px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_BhZDggxveK4/SWJvlnr5oBI/AAAAAAAAAMw/WHrH2h1mNB8/s320/3094734704_eb7f99e86f.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287911604585340946" />
Marley and Me
Directed by: David Frankel
Rated: PG
Genres: Comedy, Drama

Cute movie. Predictable movie. Sometimes we all need one of those. I'm not much for bittersweet movies, and I knew going into this what was going to happen. Either way, it had been number 1 at the box office, so I had to check it out (of course, right?). I laughed at lot, as Owen Wilson is a pretty funny character. I got very angry because his and Jennifer Aniston's characters canNOT discipline a dog whatsoever. That made it a bit harder to watch. I'll admit that I'm not dog trainer, but when people let their dogs run all over other people, I have a problem. Marley does that THE WHOLE TIME.

Anyways, if you're like the rest of America and want a sweet movie that makes you cry at the end, check out Marley and Me.

I give this movie a C+.

Valkyrie

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 239px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_BhZDggxveK4/SWJuszcAM2I/AAAAAAAAAMo/ZR0Tei8O_cY/s320/1092_12942976380.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287910628487344994" />
Valkyrie
Directed by: Bryan Singer
Rated: PG-13
Genres: Action, War

Well, well, Tom Cruise can mess up movies with the best of them! I've been very intrigued by WWII films over the past couple of months, especially once I found out I'll be living in Germany for a few months. I've been wanting to see a film from the German prospect.. or something like it. I guess it's difficult for Americans to do an up to par job on that as we have somewhat of a biased opinion (and rightly so).

This movie was pretty good in my opinion. I was a bit annoyed at the lack of any accents. I mean, since we're not speaking in German (not complaining about that at all), why not at least sound like you can speak it properly? The story line, however, was one that I was really interested in--one of the many plots to kill Hitler from WITHIN the German army. We all know from history that they won't be succeeding in this movie, so they'll be no surprise ending. I'm no history buff, but, minus Tom Cruise, this movie wasn't half bad!

I give this movie a B.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 190px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_BhZDggxveK4/SVh8rfz7aUI/AAAAAAAAAMY/dSYiLNt1RIc/s320/brad11_wideweb__470x280,0.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5285111249434798402" />
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Directed by: David Fincher
Rated: PG-13
Genres: Drama, Romance, Sci-Fi

Weird movie. Very weird. I like weird, though. As you can tell from the previews, Brad Pitt plays a guy who ages backwards. Okay, that's interesting. What gets me is the fact that the people around him who notice it, accept it without question. Hello!!! Why is no one else concerned that this guy is completely backwards? Ah. Oh well.

The movie is pretty decent. You know the critics loved it because it was weird (and has some very immoral story lines going). I liked it okay. It was a refreshing idea. It was entertaining. I laughed. Cate Blanchett looked beautiful. Some great cinematography. Check it out.

I give this movie a B+.

Seven Pounds

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 219px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_BhZDggxveK4/SVh723Qb_wI/AAAAAAAAAMQ/N71NtPM7wjg/s320/2008-12-21-sevenpounds.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5285110345195323138" />
Seven Pounds
Directed by: Gabriele Muccino
Rated: PG-13
Genres: Drama, Romance

If you enjoy sad movies, then you've gotta check out Seven Pounds. I usually enjoy all of Will Smith's movies, but the last few have been quite out of his normal acting roles. He's great at all the roles, but with movies like I Am Legend and The Pursuit of Happyness, I'm seeing a side of Will Smith that's far beyond Fresh Prince.

Seven Pounds had an interesting story line. It was quite original. I enjoyed seeing the foreshadowing occurring during the movie. It was hard for me to predict much of this movie until the very end. Once I figured it out, I was hoping I was wrong. This movie would have been so much better with a happy ending. When you finish the movie, you'll probably walk away going--wait, was that a good movie? Because, if it was, I feel pretty sad right now. I didn't have closure. A very bittersweet ending. Will Smith went a little out there when he chose this role. I won't suggest seeing this on a rough day.

I give this movie a C+.

Yes Man

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 208px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_BhZDggxveK4/SVh9LMvyzfI/AAAAAAAAAMg/3YuTyfqLTF8/s320/yes-man-1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5285111794072997362" />
Yes Man
Directed by: Peyton Reed
Rated: PG-13
Genres: Comedy, Adaptation

Oh, the old Jim Carrey is back in full force. Seeing the previews to this made me question if I was going to watch Liar Liar 2. In a sense, I feel like I slightly did. I'm okay with it though; I found Liar Liar quite an interesting movie. Yes Man is pretty much about what the previews lead you to believe: a guy who says yes to everything.

The nice thing about this Jim Carrey movie is the fact it has a plot line. Some of his movies tend to...well...not have one. Don't get me wrong. I love Jim Carrey's witty humor. It's just nice to have both wit and plot in the same movie. This movie is pretty clean. I don't remember feeling uncomfortable with any of the scenes. There's even a moment where any Harry Potter fan will feel quite proud. I think you should check this one out. I laughed pretty hard. It's still a one time watch for me, though.

I give this movie a B.

Australia

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 256px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_BhZDggxveK4/SVh5qVsOHJI/AAAAAAAAAMI/44IDSijJIsE/s320/3066218197_f900f81bc0.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5285107931003362450" />
Australia
Directed by: Baz Luhrmann
Rated: PG-13
Genres: Romance, War

I watched this movie over Thanksgiving, so my memory is slightly fading away.

I found this movie rather enjoyable. Hugh Jackman had a little bit to do with that, though. I will admit was a bit hesitant about his onscreen relationship with Nicole Kidman. I couldn't see any chemistry between the two. But, not for the first time, they proved me wrong. The movie has a great storyline with many emotional moments. You laugh and you cry. and you cry. and then you smile at why you're crying.

My main problem with this movie is that it could have ended a little over halfway through. Then, you look at your clock and realilze by some quantum leap, it has an hour left. I don't like having full closure during the middle of the movie. It makes it feel like it is dragging on.

Not much else to say about the movie. There is a precious little kid who cracks me up with his English. I think anyone would like it! It's actually quite a pleasing movie-- family safe.

I give this movie a B.

Transporter 3

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_BhZDggxveK4/STHMsiONRGI/AAAAAAAAALA/eWlGzmqVV2I/s320/transporter-3_l.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5274221704100267106" />
Transporter 3
Directed by: Olivier Megaton
Rated: PG-13
Genres: Action, Sequel
Release Date: November 26, 2008

I might have had a larger grasp to this movie if I had watched the other 2.....

Now that I've gotten that off my chest, the movie as a movie and not as a sequel (I have no choice but to rate it this way). Jason Statham knows how to find the characters that truly kick butt. He takes on around 15 guys at once? And easily pushes them all down, with, at most, a scratch. Yet, when confronted with the one guy he's wanted to truly whoop, he struggles. Seriously? This guy he fights with is probably the scrawniest and least experienced opponent yet.

Besides that, the movie was interesting. I liked seeing the good guys stick it to the bad guys. That's why I can always handle a good action movie. It's quite impossible to get bored during them. As far as a plot line goes--eh. Not much of one. I may like this movie more after I go back to watch the first two. I don't think that understanding some of the hints they drop and "rules" they refer to will make this movie much better. It's a thriller. Jason Statham is very nice to look at and plays his role well. That's it. I liked it ok.

I give this movie a B-.

Four Christmases

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_BhZDggxveK4/SS9WaUS8FOI/AAAAAAAAAK4/E2D_zQId96o/s320/four-christmases_l.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5273528698798871778" />
Four Christmases
Directed by: Seth Gordon
Rated: PG-13
Genres: Comedy, Romance
Release Date: November 26, 2008

I'm gonna go ahead and let you know that there are no big surprises in this one. I mean, it's Vince Vaughn. Don't get me wrong--I like the guy. He just plays... well the same role in all of his movies. This movie has many of those "make you cringe from the inside out" moments of which I'm not the biggest fan. After just the second Christmas in the movie, I was ready for it to end. It has some pretty uncomfortable parts, but, no worries, it gets wrapped up with a nice big bow at the end (surprised, right?). To quote Ty Burr from the Boston Globe, "When will filmmakers learn that if you start with Bad Santa and finish with It's a Wonderful Life, you just end up with curdled eggnog?"

If you're looking for a film that keeps your brain on autopilot the whole time, check this one out. If you're looking for a film with any sort of genius, skip over this one and maybe save it for DVD.. or not at all. Oh, and did I mention that I got absolutely nothing about Christmas from this movie? There was one scene where they go to church and see a play about the story of Christ's birth. It takes all of 5 minutes. Don't think I'll be watching this one again.....

I give this movie a C.

Twilight

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_BhZDggxveK4/SSyHJwjmBcI/AAAAAAAAAKg/scReD_Zuv54/s320/2955347461_78a7a16713.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5272737865466774978" />
Twilight
Directed by: Catherine Hardwicke
Rated: PG-13
Genres: Fantasy, Romance, Adaptation

Well, well, well. I have put off this review since I watched it last Thursday night. I've been waiting for this movie to come out since the moment I heard it was being made into a movie earlier this year. I had scoped out all of the cast before hand to see how many matched the image etched in my mind. I watched every trailer, new about every clip that came out beforehand, and read early reviews. Needless to say, there were no surprises to me from the cast. Those that I didn't believe fit the role, I quickly adapted to my image. I think doing that helped satisfy some of my expectations because, trust me, I had many an expectation. I read this book in may and fell head over heels in love with it. Catherine Hardwicke had some pressure.

This movie was low budget, but, as stressed earlier, I knew that one was coming. I had read about that, as well as seen a clip that was most obviously full of cheesy special effects. That I can handle because you just have to work with what you got. So, enough of the comparing from book to movie.

Well, there's not a doubt in my mind that this is one sickly sweet love story. Guys might not be the biggest fan of this one. It's definitely focused more on the female gender, as the total of 7 male occupants at the midnight premiere proved. I have a feeling that a lot of tidbits and details will be completely overlooked by those that have not read the books, and I think many things were left unexplained. The people who read the books will easily appreciate this movie more, while on the other hand, they also have much more beef with the parts that were left out. It was kind of a lose-lose situation. I have seen this movie twice now and will tell you the second time around is MUCH better. My expectations and anxiety were gone, so I was really able to relax and enjoy the show. Oh, and did I mention I LOVED how so many lines were word-for-word from the book? how often does that happen??

I give this movie a B.

Quote: Bella: "I need some answers."
Edward: "Yes, no, to get to the other side, 1.772..."
Bella: "I don't need the square root of pi."

Quantum of Solace

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 200px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_BhZDggxveK4/SSBm-D67MQI/AAAAAAAAAKY/6fTDwDx_JXA/s320/Daniel-Craig-Quantum-Of-Solace-bondovka-James-bond-sita.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5269324780413858050" />
Quantum of Solace
Directed by: Marc Forster
Rated: PG-13
Genres: Action, Thriller

James Bond. A classic. The movies have been coming out since the 60s. You have to know going into this one that it's probably going to be pretty stellar. Well, Quantum of Solace does not disappoint. I shamefully admit that I've only watched the two before this one, one of which a scarcely remember. I didn't have much to which I could compare, but I think that most any citizen of the U.S. who has ever watched a movie has some idea as to what the Bond movies are.

Well, knowing the little bit I know, I can say that this one was a totally different story line. By the title, you can see that Bond is seeking out comfort or alleviation from something. If you watched Casino Royale, you'll know he's grieving over the betrayal of the woman he loved, Vesper. So this movie turns into a much more personal story line than the other movies. Or so I think. Like I said, I am no James Bond connoisseur, but I think this movie was set apart somewhat. And can I add that James Bond is basically a marine--he is a master in the air, on land, and sea.

I think this is a must see for movie goers. Check it out--I doubt you'll be disappointed. Oh, and another great aspect of this movie: hardly any inappropriate scenes with Bond and his staple "Bond girl." Way plus!

I give this movie a B+.

Evening

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 212px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_BhZDggxveK4/SRshX3_BqVI/AAAAAAAAAKQ/1VLpYPYYvQM/s320/evening.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5267840883188934994" />
Evening
Directed by: Lajos Koltai
Rated: PG-13
Genres: Drama, Romance

Disclaimer: A few spoilers.

This movie was a poor excuse for entertainment. Do not waste your time watching it. Yes, that's a very harsh review of a movie, but I'm just warning you to not waste your money on it. This movie puts up a good façade by featuring some talented actors such as Meryl Streep, Glenn Close, Hugh Dancy, and Claire Danes. Sometimes even consisten actors and actresses can't make a movie good when it was a flop of a story line (or lack thereof).

Let me just go ahead and tell you this is one the movies that flips back and forth between the present and the past. Sometimes, you don't even know it happens. You can only tell by who is acting. There is an older woman who plays the oddest charcter who gives me the heeby geebies as some points. The story has absolutely no point. I had hoped the tagline "Her greatest secret was her greatest gift," would help my friends and I what the plot line was. No. Not a slice of help at all. The movie gives closure, and you walk away wondering why that movie was filmed. Please do not watch it. I know there is the possibility that I didn't understand the movie, but if that is the case, neither did three of my other friends. That's a handful of people and I'd take a gander that we wouldn't be the only ones who were at a loss for words as the credits began to roll.

At least I got to see Hugh Dancy. :)

I give this movie a C-.

Quote:
"You know what you've got? You have got a talent for love. You're like a love genius. And there are too many statues of generals and politicians, and there are not enough statues of someone like you. In this world, there is so much of what looks like love, and sounds like love, and calls itself love, but it isn't. It's just people saying and doing what they think they ought to say and do. And you, you, you, are the greatest. You're the greatest. You're the greatest. So here's to love, an-and, here's to you. Some people love him. Some people hate him. I, personally, kinda like the guy. He's had his share of flops, but for some reason I just always want to be on his side in every one of his movies (bad guy movies included). He always does such a fantastic job of kicking butt. No surprise, Max Payne was his usual action movie. I wouldn't exactly say it was a flop, but it wasn't his best.

Now, going into this movie, I had some weird idea that this movie had to do with demons and angels--kind of along the same lines as Constantine. Well, that's a big negative. The previews give you no clue as to what this movie is about, and I LOVE THAT. I hate it when previews give away some of the biggest plot twists. Also, I hardly predicted much of the movie. Yet another plus in my book. I was a little hesitant to watch this because it's a movie adapted from a video game. I seem to have poor reviews for movies like that (i.e. Doom). I decided to give it a shot.

The movie deals with drugs and murder more than anything. It's not the most original story ever, but I enjoyed it. To give away a little, the movie starts off with Max Payne (Mark Wahlberg) attempting to hunt down the murderers of his wife and child. That shows you that Max is no hero but a guy with a serious grudge, an anti-hero, if you will. The movie continues along this plot line. I'll stop with that. If you're bored, I'd give this movie a shot. I'd recommend waiting until it's on DVD, though. Not exactly worth $8.

I'd give this movie a B-.

Quote:
"There's an army of bodies under this river, people who ran out of time, out of friends. Yes, this movie is about a marriage in jeopardy. Yes, some of the acting is on the same level as that of Facing the Giants. This movie might not have had the budget or the flashy special effects that people sometimes seek in movies. One critic even claimed that it's a Christian Lifetime movie. You know what? so what. It's about time that we saw a wholesome movie out there amongst the filth that is in theaters. For example, Zack and Miri Make a Porno (which is ranked number TWO at the box office, mind you) is the kind of movie that has become accepted. I don't care what the main "goal" of that movie is. If it's not what is in the title, then there is absolutely no reason for calling it that. It just makes me want to scream!!!

I'll step off the soap box now and get back to Fireproof. Well, I was glad to see Mike Seaver back on the screen. The movie is definitely more beneficial for married couples, but don't let that discourage you from going. It was a great refresher for me as a Christian. It shows me that in order to get my relationships right, I need to make my most important relationship right: my relationship with Jesus Christ. For me, that is the moral of the movie. I won't say much more because there are a few twists here and there that I didn't quite see coming. I found myself crying, and crying profusely, at the end of this movie. I don't really cry, but here, I definitely did! Go see this movie. It is so refreshing.

I give this movie an A because of how it helped me out when I needed it. I will always love a wholesome story.

Quote:
"Fireproof doesn't mean the fire will never come. It means when the fire comes that you will be able to withstand it."

The Last of the Mohicans

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 258px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_BhZDggxveK4/SQIBr2hdGyI/AAAAAAAAAIA/grtieC854W0/s320/Daniel-Day-Lewis---Last-of-the-Mohicans--C10103887.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5260769167603997474" />
The Last of the Mohicans
Directed by: Michael Mann
Rated: R
Genres: War, Romance

Note: this was the 1992 version I watched. Apparently this movie has been made several times.

Oh, Daniel Day-Lewis. You knew this movie had to be pretty good if this guy is in it. He is an amazing actor, as his oscar-winning self has proved time and time again. Well, this movie was no exception. I've owned this movie for quite some time and have had all intentions of watching it, but somehow it slipped my grasp. Finally, I watched it last night. Fan-stinkin-tastic movie.

This movie is for any guy, I would think, because its setting is during the French and Indian War so there is plenty of action. War is in the eyes of the Huron tribe to satiate their hunger for revenge on the "gray hair," or British, man. Being less civilized, the tactics they use to kill are mostly with their hand weapons such as knives and axes, instead of solely using guns. That might give you a picture of the kind of scenes the movie has. After all, this movie is rated R for a reason.

On the other hand, I think girls would enjoy this movie. Maybe not all girls, but it is full of a forbidden romance that is on edge till the very end. And, let's admit it, Daniel Day-Lewis isn't too hard on the eyes. Actually, to me, the latter fourth or so of the movie is based mostly on the love story between Hawkeye (Daniel Day-Lewis) and Cora (Madeleine Stowe). One of the most famous quotes from the movie said by Hawkeye is, "No matter how long it takes, no matter how far, I will find you."

As far as a movie goes, the cinematography was absolutely breathtaking. I think most of the shots were in North Carolina if that gives you any clue. The music was also fantastic. So great, in fact, that the movie won an Oscar for best sound. I was definitely pleased with this movie. Bravo, Daniel Day-Lewis and co.!

I give this movie an A-.

A Great Quote:
Duncan: "There is a war on. How is it you are headed west?"
Hawkeye: "Well, we kinda face to the north and real sudden-like turn left."

Good Morning, Vietnam

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_BhZDggxveK4/SPzF32w86YI/AAAAAAAAAH4/XYQmsKqZLc0/s320/Good-Morning-Vietnam-01.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5259296028246206850" />
Good Morning, Vietnam
Directed by: Barry Levinson
Rated: R
Genres: Comedy, Drama

GGGOOOOOOODDDDDD MORNING, VIETNAM! Sorry, I just couldn't help myself. I was so glad I got see to Robin Williams do that. I've heard it quoted and referred to for so long that I've been dying to see this movie. After my friend Lauren gave it two opposable thumbs up, I knew it was time to watch it.

This movie is absolutely genius. Robin Williams is so brilliant, witty.. everything you expect him to be. He says things that are WAY above my intelligence level, but I laugh anyways because he delivers so well. He does impersonations so exact you think you're listening to his object of impersonation himself. Fantastic.

Another great point about this movie is that it actually has a great storyline. There's a reason it's a comedy AND a drama. It has a background story that really gives you an idea what went on during the Vietnam war. It has the serious aspects of a war movie, but yet doesn't weigh you down because of the comedic relief that Robin Williams' character brings to the plate.. which just so happens to be the exact reason he's in Vietnam in the first place. I recommend this movie full out. Loved it.

I'd give this movie an A-.

Marie Antoinette

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_BhZDggxveK4/SPQIsdZ8wNI/AAAAAAAAAHY/aeG7vIq4Mgw/s320/marieantoinette1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5256836224948945106" />
Marie Antoinette
Directed by: Sofia Coppola
Rated: PG-13
Genres: Drama, Adaptation

I decided to go through my roommate's movie collection and watch the movies I haven't seen. Turns out, I've seen all but two, one of which was Marie Antoinette. I never heard much about the movie so I decided to wait till I had a good movie night in my hands. That night happened to be last night. Marie Antoinette was a great pick for what I needed. Something light, yet not utterly lovey dovey and still happy.

Kirsten Dunst plays Marie Antoinette herself. History is not my forte, but I hear that she was a great cast. She plays a character who was a 14-year-old Austrian, basically bought to marry France's Louis XVI. Sounds like she can handle the role, right? With the makeup and acting, Kirsten Dunst played the role well. The movie was cute, and since I didn't know the story ahead of time, I didn't see most of it coming.

The costumes in the movie were absolutely amazing. I still don't know why they dress better back in the day than we do now? This movie didn't throw in anything big to ruin its historical value, and the direction and cinematography were great. This isn't a chick flick, in my opinion. My only beef was that it just kinda ended.

I give this movie a B.

Eagle Eye

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_BhZDggxveK4/SO7dStiQQPI/AAAAAAAAAHQ/g5834qacB_o/s320/hi.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5255381128718598386" />
Eagle Eye
Directed by: D. J. Caruso
Rated: PG-13
Genres: Drama, Thriller

Well, it looks like Shia Lebeouf is going to stay on the action movie train. Eagle Eye proved a bit more of a mature role for him, and by mature, I mean he cusses more. I wanna quickly say that even though this movie is PG-13, I heard "GD" said WAY too many times (1 time is too many to me). Ugh. I hate it when people say that word. To make matters worse, Billy Bob Thornton was saying most of them. I guess that's not really out of character for the guy. Despite the cussing and Billy Bob, the movie was decent.

The previews give you a good idea of what's going on in the movie. Many people will like this movie because of its non-stop action sequences and how everything comes to play in the end. You know, the point when you get to the "Ooooh!" moment when everything clicks into place. We all love it when things finally make sense. Needless to say, this movie wasn't very original, which pushes down a few notches on my grading scale. I know I've seen a movie just like it, but I can't remember what movie it was, and I don't think it would be wise to tell you in fear of giving the whole movie away. There are actually a few twists NOT given away by the previews.

Most of the action sequences contain many things that are impossible. That also is why you will love it/hate it. When you see things that you'd never think could happen and say, "Whoa, that was pretty awesome!" but then you realize, I didn't think about that happening because it CAN'T happen. At least people got creative with their ideas. Basically, I just really like Shia as an actor so that's why I liked the movie. Let's be honest.

I give this movie a B-.

Pulp Fiction

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_BhZDggxveK4/SObAiSITZ7I/AAAAAAAAAGc/j1LNadPgGiE/s320/john_travolta8.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5253097710589011890" />
Pulp Fiction
Directed by: Quentin Tarantino
Rated: R
Genres: Crime/Gangster, Comedy

So, I finally saw Pulp Fiction. It's been on my list of movies to see for awhile, along with many other lists, such as AFI's top 100 movies of all time. I've heard people talk about it. It's been quoted on several different occasions. It's always referred to in games of SceneIt! or any movie game for that matter. After much hype, I started to get nervous that it would meet my expectations. What about this movie is so good? Why does almost everyone love it? Why did the critics give it an overall A-??? What if I don't like it?

Well, I liked the movie. I think I had different expectations for it so it didn't exactly reach them. Regardless, I found it to be quite intriguing. I guess with Quentin Tarantino, I knew the movie was going to be somewhat weird. I've only watched one of his movies (Kill Bill Vol. 1), and that was enough to confirm it for me. Yet, sometimes, weird can be interesting and make for a good movie. Such was the case.

It's hard to forget the fact that I felt like my ears were bleeding after hearing the F work dropped so many times. The cussing in general was very unnecessary. If you get passed that, you actually have an entertaining movie on your hands. The story line starts off simple, but things begin to intertwine as the movies plays on. It's witty, and full of twists and turns that lead you back to where you started. There is a bit of gore, but overall, I would recommend this movie! You can't help but crack up at John Travolta and his terrible long hair or the sort of Jheri curl that Samuel L. Jackson had going on.

I give this movie a B+.

Nights in Rodanthe

I changed my blog address because I like this one better and because I was having some technical difficulties with the other one. This was really written on Tuesday, September 30.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_BhZDggxveK4/SOe4-Kq0lmI/AAAAAAAAAGo/qZ5Xhc7Dtu0/s320/nights-in-rodanthe_l.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5253370868506334818" />
Nights In Rodanthe
Directed by: George Wolfe
Rated: PG-13
Genres: Romance, Drama

I looked up some other movies George Wolfe has directed (Devil Wears Prada, Garden State), and of the few I have seen, none of them have been a big favorite (ahem, Garden State). That doesn't necessarily reflect him; it may just be the story line.

This movie was your cliche Chick Flick--a love story that has you laughing, crying, and envious at the beauty of the love displayed by the main characters. I would say this is no where near the level of passion as The Notebook, so I wouldn't call it "the next Notebook" as it was claimed to be. Sure, its based on a Nicolas Sparks book, but I wouldn't put the two in the same star level.

I don't want to write a review that gives away the plot of the movie or write a summary of it. I just want to say that it is predictable, with the exception of a small twist at the end that you might not have seen coming. It makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, and for the most part there isn't much cussing or awkward.. intimacy.. scenes. There is one, I do warn you. This is a movie that falls under the acting genre for both Diane Lane and Richard Gere. No surprises here.

I give this movie a C+.
